Startup Next: Pitch Session at
Opportunity for startups to go
to Market in Africa and India
Venue: Hennessy Park Hotel, Ebene
Date: February 14, 2020
Time: 10:00 - 15:00
An initiative of the MRIC
The Mauritius Research and Innovation Council
(MRIC) (mric.mu), operating under the aegis of the Ministry of Technology,
Communication and Innovation as an apex body endeavoring for the promotion and
coordination of Government's investment in research and innovation has the
pleasure to invite you to the Start Up Pitch session in front of renowned Angel
Investors from Africa and India.
As one of its key focus areas, the MRIC operates
the National SME Incubator Scheme which aims at promoting initiation and
development of innovative start ups in Mauritius through a network of Private
Sector-led accredited business incubators. The objective of the NSIS
is to consolidate the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Mauritius
Since 2017 to date, the NSIS has produced 11
successful startups and has incubated 130 projects. While the NSIS ensures a
structured training/mentoring approach to start ups, those who graduate from
the NSIS still need further assistance in order to start operating to their
full potential. Angel Investment could potentially address this gap.
Angel Investors bring their expert assistance and facilitate the ‘Go-to-Market
‘phase. However, in Mauritius, the culture of angel investment is still at its
initial stage. Despite the interest of individuals/groups as potential angel
investors, there is a lack of a structured approach for this vehicle to push
forward startup growth in Mauritius.
The MRIC in collaboration with the CL Educate
Ltd (http://www.cleducate.com/) seeks to tackle the above
issues through the Startup Next: Pitch Session at Meltingpot2020
Innovation Summit which will be held at the Hennessy Park Hotel in
Ebene on the 14th February 2020 as from 10h00 am. Mauritian Start ups will be
given the opportunity to pitch their business to seasoned Angel Investors and
convince the latter to invest in their businesses. Secondly, potential angel
investors from Africa and India will be given guidance on key aspects of angel
investing. The ultimate goal is to initiate a structural approach towards the
setting up of an angel investment vehicle in Mauritius.
MRIC hereby invites Mauritian startups to
register to the event using the following link: http://www.wainconnect.com/africa/startup-form.jsp. Only 20 best applications
will be invited to the conference to pitch in front of renowned world experts
and Angel investors, such as, Mr Arun Ramamoorthy and Mr Eric Osiakwan. The
investment opportunities range from USD 20,000 to 200,000 and
the best start-ups will be given a free entry in the Melting
Pot Go-to-Market acceleration phase (https://www.meltingpot2020.com/meltingPotConnect/mauritius/). The experts will also
advise the invited startups on their key steps to go to market and will debate
on the opportunities to consolidate the Angel Investment initiative in
Furthermore, potential Mauritian Angel
Investors may also wish to contact us to participate.
