National SME Incubator Scheme (NSIS)

1. BACKGROUND ​The National SME Incubator Scheme (NSIS)  is one of the key schemes of the MRIC aiming at promoting initiation and development of innovative start-ups facilitated by a network of Private Sector-led accredited business incubators. The NSIS ensures a structured training/mentoring approach to start ups, provided by the NSIS Accredited Incubators in three phases: i) Ideation: From idea to first plan. ii) Incubation: From first plan to prototype. iii) Acceleration: From prototype to first sales. The Mauritius Research and Innovation Council (MRIC) operating under the aegis of the Ministry of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation is hereby informing the public that following a number of requests from potential applicants, the deadline for the 3rd Call for the Pole of Innovation Grant Scheme which was launched on 27th November 2020 has been extended until 02nd February 2021 at 15.00hrs. Enterprise Innovation Booster Scheme

With view of boosting the innovative drive of local businesses, the Mauritius Research and Innovation Council is launching the Enterprise Innovation Booster Scheme.

The aim of the Scheme is to help Mauritian companies grow, transform and be better equipped through innovation for the future and for the global market. The Scheme is deemed to be a progression from developing internal core capabilities to innovating for productivity growth and finally, expansion. The objective is to support innovative projects, help business operations to upgrade through innovation and/or venture overseas.

Fast Track Innovation Initiatives

As a result of the COVID19 pandemic, many countries including the Republic of Mauritius are confronted with a slow/fragile economic recovery while contending with issues such as food security, sustainability and adoption of technologies.

In order to improve and accelerate the response to the economic and social challenges brought about by the current crisis and improve the country’s resilience to unforeseen situations, the Council is launching a Call for Applications for Fast-Track innovation initiatives aimed at supporting innovative projects in thematic areas.

Rodrigues Research and Innovation Grant Scheme (RRIGS)

The Rodrigues Research and Innovation Grant Scheme (RRIGS) has been formulated to promote research and innovation in Rodrigues and to address the specificities of Rodrigues. All institutions, organizations, cooperatives, enterprises and non-governmental organizations registered in Rodrigues, as well as Commissions and/or Departments falling under the aegis of the different Commissions of the RRA are eligible under this Scheme. Proposals are selected for funding based on their potential research and innovation value and their relevance to the priority areas of Rodrigues.

Public Sector Transformation Scheme

The initiative for the Public Sector Transformation Scheme was announced in the Budget Annex 2020 – 2021 (Budget Measures, Explanatory Notes, Main Provisions to be included in The Finance (MiscelIaneous Provisions) Bill 2020; Part B – Other Budget Measures; B.5. Digital Transformation):

•a Public Sector Transformation Scheme will be introduced by the Mauritius Research and Innovation Council (MRIC) to encourage innovative companies and start-ups to develop applications for the public sector.

This scheme is aimed at supporting innovative collaborative projects that test new approaches/technologies by start-ups and companies for improving processes and enhancing service delivery in the public sector.
