UN/IAF Workshop on Space Exploration and at the International Astronautical Congress

Mr Z Soreefan contributed as Rapporteur for a presentation session. He also chaired a session with several presentations on topics related to Capacity Building in the Space Sector.
It should be noted that all contributions made are included in the UNOOSA report which is then discussed at higher levels.

Mr F Shamutally presented the Mauritius Space Roadmap and provided points on how Mauritius could benefit from Space technology as well as shared on how Mauritius could itself contribute to Space Exploration. Mr F Shamutally co-Moderated a team breakout session guiding discussion on several topics related to ‘Access to Space’ and ‘Space Exploration’ and presented the team’s discussion points to the audience.

The UN/IAF (International Astronautical Federation) Workshop was held on the 22nd to 24th of October and it was the 28th Workshop on Space Technology for Socio-Economic Benefits: "Space Exploration - A source of inspiration, innovation and discovery". This event was hosted by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre, in Dubai at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The workshop was held in conjunction with the International Astronautical Congress 2021 which was held on 25th to 29th of October. The IAC is considered as the world’s premier space event held annually with over 4000 participants. 86 countries participated at this IAC with over 3000 papers presented.

During the IAC, connections were made with several organisations such as JAXA, Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), Surrey Satellite Systems (SST), ISRO, ROSCOSMOS, Swiss Space Agency, Swedish Space Corporation, SGAC, Leaf Space, Head Access, Bahrain Space Agency, AGI, South African National Space Agency (SANSA), amongst others.

Mr F Shamutally and Mr Z Soreefan, as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator, respectively, on the MIR-SAT1 project, were invited by the UNOOSA (United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs) as Delegates to represent Mauritius and contribute during these events.
