The 18th Global Innovation Index (GII), released by WIPO on 16 September 2025, ranks 139 economies worldwide across 78 indicators, and Mauritius is making waves.

Mauritius has moved up 2 places globally:  53rd in 2025! (from 55th in 2024)

Retains 1st place in Sub-Saharan Africa

 Rises to 6th place in the upper-middle income group (from 9th in 2024)

Among the fastest innovation climbers (from 82nd in 2019 to 53rd in 2025)

 

Top 3 Innovation Strengths (Global Ranks):

1st – National feature films/mn pop. 15–69
5th – VC investors, deal count/bn PPP$ GDP
7th – Government funding/pupil, secondary, % GDP/cap

Global Brand Value, Top 5000, % GDP”: 75th ➡️ 40th (+35).

Institutions: 33rd ➡️ 32nd (+1)
Infrastructure: 87th ➡️ 84th (+3)
