The MRIC, under the aegis of the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Research, is the National Focal Point to provide Research and Development data to UNESCO on an annual basis. These data are used in the ranking of Mauritius for a number of indices including the Global Innovation Index (GII) and are published by the UNESCO Institute of Statistics in its annual country reports. Moreover, these data allow a country to monitor science and support policy at both national and international levels in the fields of Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI). The survey targets the Public Sector, Private Sector, Higher Education Sector and Private Non-Profit Sector.
On 1st July 2025, the MRIC has launched the R&D survey for the financial year 2024/2025. In this context, you are encouraged to participate in the survey by filling in the questionnaire (choose your specific sector) in the link below by 15th August 2025 on indicators@mric.mu
Your kind attention is being drawn to the circular (MITCI/731 V2) that was issued by the then Ministry of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation dated 15th October 2020 concerning a Cabinet decision taken on the 11th September 2020 with regards to data submission as per below:
“With a view to improving the performance of Mauritius in the GII index, Cabinet has, at its meeting held on the 11 September 2020, agreed that all Ministries (and Department falling under their aegis) should:
i. Submit timely and relevant data to organizations concerned, both local and international, as well as update their respective websites with regards to such information;”
Given the importance of your institution in the local Research and Development context, non-submission of data will affect the ranking of Mauritius for a number of indices.
